I have a confession to make. Last March, we were introduced to CarrWorkplaces as a potential sponsor and partner for Her Corner. My first thought was, “I’m not sure about this.”
Why? Because even though I had not been to a CarrWorkplaces for years, my impression was that our brands would not align. I had memories of workspaces that felt very bland and corporate, spaces that would be more in line with government contractors than with vibrant, creative, women-run companies. Boy was I wrong.
Over the past month, I have had the pleasure of visiting seven of their 19 local offices. Each one is more unique than the next, beautifully and creatively designed with the local neighborhood in mind. Even the photography and layout of the spaces is thoughtfully aligned with its location.
But you know what surprised me the most? I know this may sound odd, but it was the number of women I found working in these spaces. I guess the government contractor impression was really strong in my mind! Since only less than 5% of government contracting dollars go to women-owned firms, I had assumed there would be mostly men working at CarrWorkplaces. Nope – I have seen so many women: young women just starting out, professional women who have hit their stride, and women who ask their kids to quietly sit in the kitchen area while they finish up a meeting.
For those of you who are ready to make that next investment in your business and work out of a shared space, you should really look into CarrWorkplaces. You’ll get benefits like receptionist and personal assistant services, and you’ll have access to meeting rooms (so long to meeting in Starbucks!). They even assist with their member’s dry cleaning and grocery shopping! And when you join one near you (and remember, they have 19 locations around the DC area, so I’m sure there’s one near you), you then have access to every single location. They even have a Café plan for $35/month.
And in terms of hosting a meeting that will knock someone’s socks off, you really must check out both the location at The Willard with a spectacular view of the monuments and the location in Rosslyn with a gorgeous view of the Potomac River.
One more thing. When we formalized our partnership with CarrWorkplaces, they agreed to help our members grow their companies by offering 20% off their services and room rentals. Even if you’re not a member at Carr, you can take advantage of a 20% discount through your Her Corner membership! Yup. Pretty cool.
So go check them out, and the next time you’re looking for a place to host a meeting, a conference, or a class – or just a place to work for the day – you should really consider looking there first.
