Trust The Process, Not The Goal.

I’ve come to learn that there are two types of people in this world: People who love goals and people who hate goals. Those who love goals, well, they’ve got goals galore. And nothing makes them happier than working towards those goals. Those who hate goals – egads. Just the mere request to please set some goals sends them into a tizzy.

The common pitfall between both of these types, however, is that generally one, maybe two, missed goals are like a nail in the coffin. Both goal-lovers and goal-haters will turn from their list of goals and let the others fall away. And this extends beyond work to all areas of our lives. We set goals to get in shape, eat better, quit a bad habit. In fact, everyone around you is setting these goals at any point in the day.

But as we know from the book, “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg, goals can be achieved by forming habits, and habits are achieved by following a process day in and day out.

So when you make a mistake and have a bad day, don’t immediately assume you’ve failed. You haven’t, you’ve simply missed the point. The point is to get back into the process. The more you follow the process, the faster you’ll get to the goal.

Trust the process, not the goal.
