Over the past few weeks, a handful of friends and Her Corner members have decided that it was time to close down their businesses. As one of them told me, “Enough is enough.”
Their reasons have varied:
- The market place changed,
- The competition was getting too stiff,
- The financials weren’t working, or quite simply,
- It was time.
But of all the reasons I heard, I loved this one the most:
“I realized I wanted to pull out the things I love doing and let go of the ones that were not working or were burning me out. I learned that I ENJOY creating, and now I realize that I am someone who enjoys starting something, growing it, and then moving on. I’m now okay with not having to commit to something for my whole life. Now that I see that more clearly, it is so much easier to move on.”
Why do we feel the need to keep doing something that doesn’t serve us? That burns us out? That takes our time? That doesn’t do its “job” (whether that job is to provide financially, scale, etc.)?
Most of the time it’s because we want to recoup our investment, or we don’t have another plan yet, or we’re afraid of being seen as a failure.
Let’s remind ourselves that making decisions that are good for ourselves and our families are the complete opposite of failure.
They are decisions born of courage, and they are an excellent example to follow.
