Philadelphia, Montana, Baltimore … what in the world is going on with Her Corner?!
We get this question all the time, which reminds us that we don’t always do the best job of sharing with you what we’ve been up to. In some ways that’s because we don’t want to be a bother (after all, we’re here to help you, not to brag about what we’ve been doing!) But at the same time, it’s thanks to you, the members of Her Corner, that we remain motivated and committed to growing this community, and the least we can do is tell you what we’re doing to make this a better place for you!
If you ask us what we’re most proud of in 2017, it was the ability to demonstrate that we could take our brand, completely unknown, and bring it to a new market – and do so in about five months. We didn’t know whether there would be demand for Her Corner in Philadelphia, and we didn’t know whether we could fill a new Accelerator group so quickly. But there was, and we did! Traveling to Philly (sometimes weekly,) was hard, but along the way we met new strategic partners, organizations with similar missions, and women business owners with the same drive and passion as we see in DC. It was the highlight of our year!
We also started to hear from more and more women across the country saying to us, ‘hey, can you bring Her Corner to my city?’ And we said sure, we’re working on it. So that’s what we’ve been noodling lately. How do we bring Her Corner to more cities faster? And it finally dawned on us just recently, ‘Why does there only have to be one way that we enter a new city?’ So we are testing out a few different models in the coming months to figure out what works best. That’s how the Montana initiative started where in April, Karen Tempkin will be bringing the program to Missoula, MT. And that also explains why we are launching an Accelerator cohort in Baltimore in January. Stay tuned as we continue to work on this opportunity.
Right up there with the success we’ve seen in Philly is the enormous amount of pride that we have for the women who have gone through the Accelerator program, each one as unique as the business she has built, and each with results specifically tied to personal and business goals that she set for what she wanted her business (and her life) to look like!
- We’ve seen women grow their revenues on average over 40%, some as high as 70% this year.
- We’ve seen women restructure companies, let employees go, cut costs, so that she could run the most profitable business she could.
- We’ve seen women launch new companies, new products, new services.
- We’ve seen women find their sweet spot in marketing and bring in tens of thousands of dollars over Black Friday weekend.
- We’ve seen women go through ups and downs, divorces and losses, and come out stronger and financially more confident than ever before.
- We’ve had women tell us we saved their lives (maybe a bit much, but that’s what she said!)
- We’ve seen women have babies (lots and lots of babies in 2017,) and still remain focused and involved with their businesses.
- We’ve seen women turn down business, raise prices, hire employees, take loans, lines of credit, and business partners.
Other highlights for 2017 included launching a new initiative called “Her Corner Gives Back” in which we make a donation to a non profit with a similar mission to support women in honor of someone who recommends a woman to the Accelerator program. We were also approached for the first time by a group of AMAZING women business owners (most are HC members) who wanted to “pay it forward” by holding an event to raise money for a Her Corner grant to be used to sponsor another woman to go through the Accelerator. All of this to say that the Her Corner community is strong, growing, and always looking for ways to support each other.
Finally, we have spent a lot of time thinking through how we can best support ALL the members of our Her Corner community. While we have the most direct impact on those of you who go through the Accelerator, we want to make sure we are providing the support that all members need. To that end, we are beyond thrilled to announce that starting in January, we are launching a quarterly digital magazine call The Bottom Line!! Each issue will be focused on a theme and will have articles, interviews and content (including worksheets and templates) to help you grow your own business. And the best part is that every member of Her Corner, regardless of membership level, will get free access to The Bottom Line!
So that’s it. That’s what we’ve been up to for the past year and what we’ll be focusing on in 2018. To say we love our jobs would be the understatement of the year. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also A TON of fun! We love the chance to work with you, in your businesses, and to see you thrive.
