I was totally thrown for a loop the other day when a business owner said to me, “Fred, I need to roll this out because I can’t feel badly about one more thing right now.”
I was so stunned I couldn’t think of anything to say right away other than “OK.” But boy has it been on my mind. In fact, the very next day, as I was running our accelerator, I noticed it again. One woman after another made a statement alluding to the fact that they felt badly about something in some way.
And so I got mad.
Not *really* mad. But mad enough. Mad enough that I said, “That’s it! You all get to pick just one thing that you can feel badly about. One thing.”
Because frankly, who’s got time for this? Who’s got time to feel badly about stuff? Each and every one of us is doing our best while doing a lot. We’re accomplishing more than most sane people would in a day, managing multiple roles, constantly planning ahead and thinking about others, and yet we still feel badly about it?
No way. And I mean HELL no. If you’re doing your best, you don’t have anything to feel bad about anything. Feel proud, feel tired, feel happy, feel every emotion under the sun. But don’t feel bad about everything.
I’ll give you one thing to feel bad about. But it had better be a good one!
