I’m Nervous

One of my dear friends and very favorite business coaches asked me quite bluntly (but kindly) the other day what was keeping me from playing bigger.

I didn’t know. And I still don’t know.

But since then, I have decided to start to put myself way outside of my comfort zone, and I’m nervous.

It’s not very comfortable out here.

For the longest time I have been tinkering with the model of Her Corner. How will it grow, how will I get out of the way?

And tinkering is the right way to put it. I haven’t been playing big, and I haven’t been trying to raise money to play big. Instead, I have been evolving and tweaking the model, but I came to realize that the model and the business wasn’t the problem – I was.

My friend was right, I was the one keeping myself from playing bigger. So I did something about it.

I put myself out there.

Starting this month, I’ll be working with a leadership coach on the West Coast as a fellow in a global coaching program for women. I’ve asked her to challenge me so I can get to the heart of what may be slowing me down.

I’ve also started really interesting conversations with groups that are similar to Her Corner but much, much bigger. These organizations have platforms and infrastructure, much more so than we do, and if we WERE to partner together, the impact could be incredible.

And in January, I’ll be serving as an adjunct professor at American University, teaching undergraduates in their business school. (For what it’s worth, I’m much more comfortable with the graduate students – it’s the very young twenty something’s that really make me uncomfortable. They’re so easily distracted that you’d better be really engaging!)

And of course, I’m continuing to run Her Corner. But that is no longer the primary focus in my brain. I’ve created some room in there to see what happens, to see what I learn, and to be uncomfortable.

And I have to say, I’m a little nervous.

Frederique is passionate about helping women take their businesses to the next level of growth and success. As founder and CEO of Her Corner, she applies her entrepreneurial spirit & management consulting background and business operations expertise to give women the springboard they need to move forward.

Her Corner grew out of a lightbulb moment Frederique had in 2011. After realizing that access to other motivated and ambitious women business owners was lacking in her existing network she decided to do something about it – and Her Corner was born.
