Message from the Founder

I hate change, I love change.

Change is coming. And I don’t really like change.

The other day I was poking around on Facebook, and I saw a picture taken by one of our members in her dining room. And I thought, I’ve been there. I’ve had dinner there. I’ve shared laughs and stories with other business owners around that table. And for a moment I felt sad.

I felt sad because after four years of meeting over dinner in each other’s homes, we are changing the model for our Groups program. Why? Because it was time. Our members were telling us we had outgrown that model.

Starting in September, all our meetings will be held at the offices of CarrWorkplaces, a new strategic partner. The beauty of working with CarrWorkplaces is that they have 19 offices all over the DC, MD, and VA area – which means that we can have a centrally located meeting place for almost all of our Groups.

Members will always know where to go, and we won’t have to worry about distances and unexpected traffic. But more important than convenience, we’re making this change because of what our members told us in our annual survey. Here’s what they said was missing.

Our members said they’re tired of big events. And that while they love the convenience of online connections, they want more in-person meetings in small group settings. In-person and face-to-face matters more than ever, they told us.

And so we started working on change. A big change. Starting in September our Groups program will also meet monthly – versus every other month. And since CarrWorkplaces is bigger than someone’s living room, we may have two or three groups meeting on the same night at the same location. So we’re introducing an hour of networking before the Groups meetings start – a chance for small and intimate networking to happen among women who live in the same neighborhood (even if they’re in a different group.)

Our new Groups program will allow you to work on your business monthly, meet new women, see new faces, and make new connections. And for this reason, I love change, because change can be very good.

While I’m sad to miss those wonderful dinners in our dining rooms, I’m also delighted to be able to bring something new to our members. Because what I know for sure is this – women inspire women. And the more women you meet, the greater the chance that you’ll hear a story that will inspire you to do and be greater than you even thought possible.
