I’m busy, you’re busy, he’s busy, she’s busy, even grandma is busy! It’s the society we live in – everyone is busy (not dogs or cats, though – they have mastered the art of chilling out and napping).
If you’re small business owner, you’re even busier than most people. Every single small business owner I know – and I know my fair share – struggles with the time equation. You need time to do whatever it is you do, but then you also have to pay attention to marketing, accounting, financial planning, hiring, training, project management, lead nurturing – the list goes on.
All of the clients who my team and I blog for are too busy to blog themselves – every single one – even if they are good writers and have a lot to say. If you haven’t blogged in months, it’s still pretty darn scary to hand the reins over to someone else. However, there are numerous benefits of outsourcing your blog:
You now have one less thing to worry about
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE having less to worry about. Imagine not having that blog and editorial calendar hanging over your shoulder – such lightness and bliss. You’ll feel better as soon as you make the decision to outsource your blog.
You don’t have to struggle against a weakness anymore
If you are not the next Shakespeare or Hemingway, well, I am not the next Pluto or Einstein, so don’t feel bad. We all have different skills, and if you struggle with writing for whatever reason, stop torturing yourself! Just hand it over to someone who loves to write.
Your blogger will bring a valuable outsider’s view
Small business owners get very wrapped up in our own heads. We can’t see our business – or our blog – from a different perspective. It’s our baby, and we love it no matter what.
Well, as an outsider, I take a very different, objective view of your blog. I can probably think of a million different topics to blog about and that your audience will find relevant, valuable, and interesting – topics that never even crossed your mind.
While blogging for you, I’ll learn a lot about your industry and business, which is always fascinating. Case in point: 18 months ago, I could not talk about options trading. Hell, I didn’t even know what it was! Then I met Bob Lang at Explosive Options and started editing everything he writes. Now I can easily talk about trading, and I can even tell you what the markets are really up to (hint: it’s not what the screaming maniacs on TV are saying).
You’ll have more time to do what you’re good at
We’ve already alluded to the fact that you’ll have more time on your hands, but think about it: If you spend (or attempt to spend) 1-2 hours struggling to write and publish a blog post every week, that adds up to 5-6 extra hours every month to do OTHER stuff – billable work, take client meetings, or even just work a slightly shorter day.
Your website will be easier for people to find if your blog is active
Search engines look very favorably on websites that are frequently updated. Consider these numbers, courtesy of HubSpot:
- Companies with 51-100 pages on their website generate 48 percent more traffic than those with 1-50 pages (most of those pages can be your blog posts).
- Companies that publish at least 15 blogs per month get five times more traffic than those that don’t blog. Small businesses with 1-10 employees see the largest gains by posting more often.
You will generate more leads, too
For reals. Check out these numbers (the first two from HubSpot, the third is from Social Media Today):
- Companies nearly double their sales leads by increasing blogging frequency from 3-5 times per month to 6-8 times per month.
- Companies that blog once or twice per month generate 70 percent more leads than those who don’t blog at all.
- Small businesses with blogs generate 126 percent more leads than those without a blog.**
